John the Apostle often proclaimed outright that an event occurred because it was prerecorded in God’s Word. For example:
“...’Let us not tear it’...that the Scripture might be fulfilled..” (JN 19:24 citing prophecy by David)
“…that the word of Isaiah..might be fulfilled…” (JN 12:38 citing prophecy by Isaiah)
“…they could not believe, because Isaiah said again...” (JN 12:39 further prophecy by Isaiah)
“...Jesus, when he found a young donkey, sat on it as it is written…” (JN 12:14-15 by Zechariah)
John was so spiritually focused that for him it was paramount to point out that God's Word was realized in these happenings, however they played out in the physical world or how God used them. He understood that the Lord is “not slack concerning His promise” (2 PE 3:9.2) and that a prophecy He shares through one of His prophets is a promise.
It will come to pass.
In fact John was so comfortably in tune with the Lord that, as my wife Rebecca observed it’s no wonder that he was singled out as "the disciple that Jesus loved”. (JN 21:20) Or that Jesus entrusted His mother to John’s care after His death. (JN 19:27)
I suspect that His very intimate bond with His apostle John enabled the Lord to trust him with recording His conclusive, supernatural masterpiece—“THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST”. For that matter why John, of all His disciples, was the only one invited to witness the upcoming events of this epic drama in advance! (RV 1:11)
